What's in Your HUD with Mitchell Loch (Ad1oz)

We sat down with online poker streamer and poker player Mitchell "Ad1oz" Loch to get his thoughts on poker-related software.
 
PokerSoftware:  We learned from watching you on PocketFives TV that you have one of the most advanced PokerTracker 4 HUDs that we have seen.  When did you start working on creating this?
 
Mitchell Loch:  I actually cannot take all the credit for this, as I am a member of Pocarr, and we did a webinar with Adam "Squee451" Sherman a few months ago.  It's actually a copy of his HUD with adjustments I have made to cater to the way I read HUDs.
 
PokerSoftware:  How difficult were the adjustments to make?
 
Mitchell Loch:  The adjustments were not at all difficult to make.  Once you understand how to add positional pop-ups and custom stats, it is very easy.  There is a bit of a learning curve at first, but it is very minimal. The PT4 HUD designer is very straightforward and the editor is very easy to work with.
 
PokerSoftware:  Can you tell us why you chose to use a HUD that is transparent on the tables unless you hover over it?
 
Mitchell Loch:  I really like the transparent HUD because I can see all of the stack sizes and my eyes are not focused on so many numbers on my screen.
 
PokerSoftware:  Does this have any effect on your game when you are in early position and can't quickly glance at all the players left to react?
 
Mitchell Loch:  Not at all since I've really cut back on tables in the last six months of playing. It is very easy for me to follow the action and dissect a player if he decides to flat my opens or 3-bet me, for example.
 
PokerSoftware:  Can you share with us how your HUD is set up line by line?
 
Mitchell Loch:  Name, Hands, Big Blinds
rfi, vpip, 3bet, fold to 3bet after raise
limp, isolate limp, 4bet, fold to 4bet
cbet flop, Fold to cbet flop, donk, squeeze
cbet turn, fold to cbet turn, bet river, fold to river bet
fold SB vs steal, fold BB vs steal, fold vs SB open
 
PokerSoftware:  We noticed you have positional pop-ups.  How often do you use them and how useful are they?  What type of sample size do you look for before you rely on positional stats?

Mitchell Loch:  I use them for pretty much every decision I make.  Again, this all depends on the situation, the player, and the dynamics at the table. For sample size, I like to have 10 to 20 instances of a given situation. For example, how often does someone 3-bet versus a button open in the big blind. If the HUD says something like 15/20, I have a fairly easy decision on how to proceed.

PokerSoftware: How come you don't use filters for number of big blinds?
 
Mitchell Loch:  I've used it in the past and, to be honest, I don't know what I would be looking for in terms of sample size.  Utilizing these filters would really only effect how I play versus a reg's short stack and for 3-bet stacks sizes.  Since I have cut back on the number of tables I play simultaneously, I don't find it necessary to use number of big blind filters.  I feel I already have a grasp on the dynamics and people's short to medium stack play using my HUD.
 
PokerSoftware:  We imagine that a HUD as dynamic as yours has gone through some changes.  Can you describe some of the more recent changes and why you made them?
 
Mitchell Loch:  My most recent changes would be adding all of the labels for my stats and the lower opacity until mouse over. I have made these changes because it's hard for me to remember all of the numbers on my HUD while I am playing and I would rather focus on the game play than what my HUD numbers mean. With that in mind, I've added the lower opacity until I mouse over because my HUD is a fair bit bigger than your average reg's HUD and I need to see stack sizes before I make any of my decisions.
